Our Learn to Skate Program provides a dynamic program focused on fun, participation, and basic skating skill development. Participants are 3 to 15 years old.
We use nationally-tested proven curriculum and delivery methods that guarantee skater success in three skill categories: balance, agility, and control. This program is geared towards skaters of all skill levels and experience, with assessment days at the end of each program session to test each skater’s progression.
Our program is taught by our nationally-trained and certified coaches, who focus on teaching the fundamentals needed for your child's future in skating, both competitive and recreational. Whether it is learning the basic skating skills for figure skating, hockey, ringette or speed skating, or for those who wish to skate for recreation, fitness or fun, York Region Skating Centre and the Learn to Skate program will get you there.
In addition to our Learn to Skate program, we also offer a pre-Learn to Skate program during our Learn to Skate sessions for our first-time and younger skaters aged 3-4. Skaters will learn the basics of moving forwards and backwards, as well as learning how to fall and stand up by themselves!
For those skaters who show potential in figure skating, opportunities exist for talent ID and to be invited to audition for our highly successful competitive program.
